Making the most of a micro kitchen

by Felecia Banks

Whether your whole house is small or you just have a very small kitchen having a great kitchen setup can make even a tiny kitchen feel adequate. If you are looking to make the most of your limited kitchen space, a strategic kitchen renovation can be a smart solution.

Smaller appliances

With more and more apartments offering small kitchen spaces there are some great slimline and small profile appliances on the market. If you only have very limited kitchen space, it's a good idea to get the very smallest appliances so that you can maximise usable space for food preparation. Some ways that you can reduce space consumption include having a half or drawer dishwasher, having a single sink, or using a single burner bank stovetop instead of a full oven and 4 burner stove top.

Multitask as much as possible

While it can be handy to have devices and appliances that can let you use any type of cuisine this can lead to a lot of clutter—particularly if those specialist items are not used very often. A lot of food processing can be replicated with a sharp knife and some extra time and many dishes and pots can also do double duty. Keep a record of the meals that you actually cook in the kitchen and donate or throw out anything that you don't use regularly.

Making the most of wall space

You may not have as much space in under bench storage as other kitchens, but making use of your wall space to store items on small shelves can really maximise your space. You can store herbs, cook books and crockery against the wall. It's a great way to make the most of some of your beautiful homewares that have been lurking in the back of the cupboard and can make it very easy to find all of the items that you use. You can store the items you use less at a higher level and regularly used items such as fry pans down at eye level.

If you have a small kitchen, it's a good idea to make the most of the space that you have by using smart storage and getting rid of features that you do not not need. Having a small kitchen can help to simplify your life and can make food preparation and cooking a lot more enjoyable for you and your family.

About Me

Upgrading our curtains

We have just bought a new house, and the guy who lived here before us smoked in the house for close to 40 years. The first thing I knew we had to change as soon as we moved in was the curtains, because I can't bear the smell of stale smoke. I looked around at a few different options and settled on some beautiful cream curtains with a delicate pattern and a blackout backing so that the dawn doesn't wake me each morning. This blog explains some different stylish options for window coverings for your home, including curtains and blinds.
